Winkler Knives is a limited production company that custom manufactures a diverse line of high performance edged tools. It was established in response to requests from within the Special Operations Forces community for specialized breaching tools and has become widely acclaimed for its no-frills approach to tactical and rescue operations. Their unique processes, executed by craftsmen under the direct supervision of Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler, result in handmade knives and axes without custom-made prices.
The WK Field Knife has dual inspiration. First, it's comparable in size and profile to the knives Daniel Winkler preferred during his years as a historical enactor. The knife is versatile and well suited to camp chores and tasks encountered on primitive treks.
Second, the knife mirrors a hand forged piece Winkler created for a member of Naval Special Warfare who was a great outdoorsman, a revered operator and a man who was integral in the development of several Team specific Winkler Knives designs, as well as the WK Utility Knife.
The Winkler Knives Field Knife fixed blade measures in at 10.25" overall with a 5.875" Caswell no-glare black oxide clip point blade. The blade is made from 80CRV2 which is an extremely tough high carbon tool steel with excellent edge holding capabilities. The tapered full tang is sandwiched between two slabs of smooth maple wood with a sleek and clean look. The overall fit and finish and the attention to detail are certainly visible on this knife with Winkler Knives deciding to do intricate file work rather than standard jimping on the thumb rest. It's perfectly balanced and the size and shape will lend well outdoor and camping applications. Each Field Knife includes an ambidextrous lined Kydex leather belt sheath, malice clips, MOLLE loop attachment and hardware.
