The SpydieChef is Spyderco's latest collaboration with renowned Polish custom knifemaker Marcin Slysz. Known for his elegantly simple designs and impeccable craftsmanship, Slysz began crafting fixed-blade knives in 2006 and quickly honed his skills to specialize in high-tech folding knives. His distinctive style—evident in previous collaborations such as the Techno and Slysz Bowie—often features titanium handles, Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanisms, and premium stainless steel blades. Additionally, he enjoys creating slip-joint folders, a diverse range of fixed blades, and various unique tactical tools.
While its name may imply that the SpydieChef is solely a kitchen tool, it is, in fact, a highly versatile folding knife designed for all-purpose use. It combines the user-friendly ergonomics and balanced feel of a world-class chef's knife, transforming them into a compact and convenient cutting tool suitable for everyday carry.
The SpydieChef's standout feature is its gracefully curved, full-flat-ground blade, precision machined from LC200N steel. This steel, alongside H-1, is part of Spyderco's elite Salt Series of knives. LC200N is a state-of-the-art, high-nitrogen alloyed tool steel specifically formulated to provide exceptional corrosion resistance and remarkable toughness, even at high hardness levels.
In true Slysz fashion, the SpydieChef boasts an open-backed handle constructed with two precision-machined solid titanium scales. The reverse-side scale serves as the foundation for a robust Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism, which securely locks the blade open during use while allowing for easy one-handed lock release. The handle's refined ergonomics and integral lower guard ensure a secure, comfortable grip, naturally orienting the blade's cutting edge for maximum control. For added security when working near water, the handle features a generously sized lanyard hole for easy attachment of safety lines and lanyards. A reversible deep-pocket wire clip allows for convenient, ambidextrous, tip-up carry, ensuring the knife is always ready for immediate access. Like the blade and titanium scales, the pocket clip, screws, and all other components of the SpydieChef are machined from highly corrosion-resistant alloys, making it practically impervious to the elements and a worthy member of Spyderco’s Salt Series.
